The Future of Immersive Education

Ten years from now, I see the great potential in the future of Immersive Education. With all the advances in technology these days, the evolving Immersive Education platform will provide a new educational environment for students that can be widely available. Immersive Education will expand as the technology enhances, which will also expand the number of users of this type of Education. Also, not everyone can go to a certain location, ex. a class on campus, but anyone with a computer can take virtual courses. There are numerous reasons for why I see great potential for Immersive Education.
Because technology advances so rapidly nowadays, I believe this will allow for more schools to implement virtual courses such as ours. I believe they can be very successful, because almost everyone has access to a computer with internet. Immersive Education provides a learning environment very different than a lecture hall and can be a fun way to learn and interact with classmates. I believe that in courses like ours, tools like the audio whiteboard simplify many people's difficulty with computers. Technologies such as Skype and Second Life are already making it easy for people all over the world to connect and be entertained, I find it hard to believe Educational purposes can't evolve with tools like the audio whiteboard and other Immersive Education tools. To find more information on Immersive Education, check out this website, http://Immersiveeducation.org
Overall I believe the Future of Immersive Education has great potential to succeed. I actually find it more likely to succeed than not, due to the increase in technologies and the accessibility it provides to students. I think it's only natural to strive to make improvements, and virtual education definitely has an opportunity to expand in the near future.

Here is a screenshot of our class in the audio whiteboard. This allows students to interact by voice and text together in a virtual classroom setting.

This is a screenshot of our class's 3d Solar system built in RocketWorld. This online virtual world creates an environment where students can learn, build, and create almost anything imaginable.

Adding texture to the sphere so it has the correct color of the real Saturn
Finished Saturn before linking the rings with the planet and running the script
A view of the finished solar system, for some strange reason the rings of Saturn align vertically when linked together with the planet.

Lighting/Shading

This image shows a lighting/shading effect to give the tube a hollow look to it.

Occlusion

This image shows occlusion. The tree in back is still in sight because it is partially blocked by the tree in front, creating a sense of depth between the two trees.

Texture density

This image shows texture density between the tables. The table in front you can see the texture of the table. The table in back is more of a solid/blurry color because it is further away.

Monocular Depth Cues-Size difference

this image shows monocular depth cue of size difference. The tree in the front looks bigger because it is closer than the tree in the back.

This image shows that the trees are actually the same size.

Basketball hoop

This is the basketball hoop i constructed in Rocketworld during class 11. The hoop is made from 3 different objects, the black pole, the white backboard, and the orange rim. All three were custom designed and stacked on top of each other to create the hoop. I was kicked out of Rocketworld about halfway through the session and was only able to take one screenshot of the my contributions.

I used the color picker tool to delete the red eye. Then I used the smudge and blurr tools to eliminate blemishes, wrinkles, and smile lines.
